Yeshiva University to hold 1st of its kind Jewish studies conference in UAE

Yeshiva University is set to host a Jewish studies conference in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in what is being described as a historic event. The conference, titled "Interacting Philosophies, Shared Friendships," will explore the philosophical interactions and mutual influences between Judaism and Islam, with a focus on the medieval Jewish scholar Moses Maimonides.

Partnering with the Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Humanities in Dubai's Crossroads of Civilization Museum, the site of the only permanent Holocaust exhibition in an Arab country, the conference aims to strengthen academic partnerships and foster dialogue between Jews and Muslims in the region.

This event is the first of its kind between a US Jewish university and a UAE university. Local officials, religious leaders, scholars, and students from both institutions will attend the conference, and organizers will serve a kosher dinner.

Following the conference, Yeshiva University scholars will visit the newly-opened interfaith center in Abu Dhabi, the Abrahamic Family House, which houses a synagogue, mosque, and church. The scholars will also visit Israel's ambassador to the UAE, Amir Hayek.

Since the normalization of ties between Israel and the UAE in the 2020 Abraham Accords, the Gulf state has made efforts to boost Holocaust education. Earlier this year, the UAE announced that it will begin teaching about the Holocaust in history classes in primary and secondary schools across the country.
