Understanding the Link Between Anxiety and Technology Addiction

Image
In today’s fast-paced digital world, where we are constantly connected to our smartphones and devices, it’s becoming increasingly important to examine the impact of technology on our mental health. One particular area of concern is the relationship between anxiety and technology addiction. Research has shown that excessive use of technology can contribute to the development and exacerbation of anxiety disorders. In this article, we will explore this connection and discuss ways to address it. The rise of social media platforms and the constant need for validation through likes and comments have created a breeding ground for anxiety. The fear of missing out (FOMO) and comparing oneself to others’ seemingly perfect lives can lead to feelings of inadequacy and heightened anxiety. Moreover, the constant exposure to negative news and information overload can further fuel anxiety and stress. Additionally, technology addiction itself can be a source of anxiety. The constant need to check ...

Pressure Doesn’t Have to Turn into Stress

Image
When I was in my late twenties, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Doctors operated and told me to hope for the best. I returned to Japan, where I was working, and tried to forget about it. The tumors returned a year later, this time in my liver. After a long search, the surgeons found a new procedure to remove them, but I knew this was, again, perhaps only a temporary fix. I was a mess for the next six months. The hardest part of my illness was my constant anxiety about it coming back. Then I met a man who changed my outlook. Dr. Derek Roger had spent 30 years researching why some people in difficult situations become overwhelmed, while others persevere. He taught me everything he’d learned, and as I started applying it, my anxiety subsided, even though my situation didn’t change. In fact, the cancer came back about five years ago and remains relatively stable in my liver. But I no longer worry abo...

Foods that cure: chocolate

Image
I discovered all its properties and learned how to taste it better. Where does it come from? Chocolate is made with the grains present in the pods that grow in the cocoa tree, of perennial leaves, native to the valleys of South America. Such was the value given to it by the natives of Central and South America that these grains were used as currency. It all starts with the cocoa grain. First of all, it is toasted to accentuate the flavor and color of the chocolate; the peel is removed, leaving only the almond and ground to obtain the cocoa liquor. Then, it is pressed to extract the cocoa butter, resulting in a solid mass called cocoa cake, which is dried and sifted to obtain cocoa powder. Finally, by mixing the cocoa powder, with the cocoa butter, sugar and milk you get the chocolate The more cocoa it has, the more bitter and intense the flavor will be, since the increase in the cocoa content, there is no room for sugar. White chocolate doesn’t actually contain cocoa powder, but cocoa ...

The magic of pets

Image
These furry friends increase your physical and emotional well-being. Having a pet doesn’t just mean fun. Research has shown that living with an animal can give us greater overall happiness, reduce our stress, motivate us to exercise more and improve our quality of life. Many people adopt pets to have company. After all, animals offer us unconditional loyalty. Money can’t buy that special feeling of getting home and that the dog shakes his tail when he sees it, or that the cat curls up on his lap and purrs placidly. These daily joys remind us that we should take things more calmly in our busy and stressful life. Studies indicate that pets can even lower high blood pressure and stabilize blood cholesterol levels, as well as reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Animal owners go to medical consultations up to 15 percent less than people who do not have pets. Surveys conducted by the University of Western Australia reveal that more than 70 percent of pet owners say that the...

If you change some bad habits that this environment encourages, you will be able to increase the fun and improve your health. Probably this is the one of all the places in the house where we spend our time, the one where we are the most. Here you will usually find the computer, the TV and the armchairs in which we usually get to read a book. Few modern inventions have harmed both health and television. We barely move when we are glued to the screen, and in each advertising cut we are tempted by images of greasy and sugary foods. Therefore,  the next time you settle in the  living room  armchair  and press the "power" button on the remote control,  keep these tips in mind . Make a list of tasks during the advertising cuts.  Ten minutes before your favorite program starts, make a list of five tasks - no more than two minutes each - that you can carry out during the advertisements. The list may include occupations such as accommodating the mag...

Why is it convenient to eat whole grains?

Image
Grains such as wheat, barley and oats can be added to soups or baked goods to increase their nutritional value. In the era of carbohydrate-reduced diets, the benefits that grains bring to health are sometimes forgotten. Since prehistoric times, grain-based products have been the main food of agricultural societies. Almost all cultures have a basic cereal around which their diet is centered. Currently, thanks to modern agricultural techniques and efficient transport, we can try a huge variety of grains. Despite having access to cereals from all over the world, we continue to depend mainly on wheat, which is ground to make flour and with it bread. To a lesser extent, we also eat corn, rice, oats, barley, millet and some exotic grains.  Whole grains are rich in complex carbohydrates, fiber and many vitamins and minerals.  They also have a low fat content, and when eaten together with beans or other legumes, they are a rich source of protein. Nutritionists urge the population...

Interesting facts about longevity

Image
Longevity has at least two components: genetic and environmental factors (life habits, diet, stress). You can interfere with the latter. A few years ago, gerontologists revealed that the residents of the island of Okinawa, in southern Japan, lived longer than the inhabitants of any other country. Your secret diet?  Variety of cereals, vegetables, soy and fish ; little meat and poultry, and less dairy. Currently, life expectancy in Okinawa is decreasing because young people on the island have an abound diet. Longevity in fast foods, which cause high levels of obesity. Several studies on Mormons, Adventists and Trapan monks - who have a vegetarian diet and follow a quiet lifestyle - show that their life expectancy is also higher. A Spanish study conducted in people between 65 and 80 years old showed that those who  followed a Mediterranean diet  were 31 percent less likely to die in the next nine years than those who did not. This type of food includes whol...

Autism in adults: the invisible disease

Image
Sometimes the problem is not diagnosed until adulthood, and the news can be both shock and relief. After a particularly stressful day of work three years ago, Jo Bervoets, 51, a Belgian engineer, was on his way home when he thought the train station was noisier and more chaotic than usual. "I was already a little lost, immersed in my thoughts, before arriving at the station," says Bervoets. He was starting a new job, and he was worried about not being able to connect with his new colleagues. "I got on any train in the direction of Antwerp." When the train arrived at its station, Bervoets went to the stop to rent bicycles where he used to take one to get to his neighborhood, but there was none.  Agged, he realized that he did not know how to return to his house . "I called my wife and, somehow, I managed to get there," says Bervoets. After three months in his new position, he was exhausted. "I came down." He says he still doesn't remember ex...
